"You gonna do somethin'? Or are you just gonna stand there and bleed?" - Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp in the
1993 film "Tombstone"
Just a month before the infamous gunfight at the OK Corral, Wyatt met and fell instantly in love with
twenty-year-old Josephine Sarah Marcus. Despite Wyatt already being married, they began a love affair which lasted
almost fifty years.
Always seeking adventure, they lived in many places after leaving Tombstone. Three years of gold-mining in Alaska netted them
more than $80,000 which they used to settle in California. Wyatt had hoped to cash in on his experiences
in the movie industry, but it never happened. When Wyatt died in 1928, Josephine was so distraught she
didn't even attend his funeral. In her memoirs, she wrote: "Wyatt's
family were almost all gone and we had no children. My only home was where my parents rest so I took
Wyatt's ashes to San Francisco."
Wyatt & Josephine are buried at Hills of Eternity Cemetery in Colma,
California.
