If any of the other wolves want her foot, her sleeping spot, her toy, whatever she must let them take it without reproach. It's very difficult to watch, but it's the way things are done with wolves.

The Gallatin Wolf Pack at the GDC was born in captivity and originated from four different litters. The now-cohesive pack of gray wolves consists of 7 females and 3 males.

As carnivores, the wolves at GDC eat strictly meat. Most often they are fed chunks of deer, elk, moose or antelope. In addition to their main diet, they also give them daily enrichments or "snacks." These snacks give the wolves the opportunity to demonstrate their social hierarchy and the visitors the chance to witness the natural posturing and behaviours of a wolf pack.

Wolves used to range throughout most of North American but now are reduced to parts of Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, Wyoming, Washington and range throughout most of Alaska and Canada. In their natural environment, wolves help balance the natural food chain. When wolves in the wild run out of natural foods, they will sometimes prey on cattle and domestic sheep. When this happens, they are considered "problem wolves" and destroyed by wildlife authorities.
