Gallon House Covered Bridge in Silverton, Oregon
Crosses: Abiqua Creek. Length: 84 feet. Year built: 1916-1917
The Gallon House Bridge is the last remaining covered bridge in Marion County and one of the oldest covered
bridges in Oregon. This structure is an 84-foot housed Howe truss with a timber roadway deck. Gallon House has
rectangular portals, narrow ribbon openings at the eaves, and board-and-batten siding. The bridge is open to
traffic. Marion County completed major repairs to the bridge in 1985.
According to local tradition, it was named for the days when liquor was sold by that gallon or quart in a nearby
house. During that time, Silverton to the south was a dry town, while Mount Angel to the north was not.
The last three images are older postcards and photos of the bridge.

A&W Carhop Restaurant, Stayton, Oregon
I did go through a small town which still has an A&W Carhop Restaurant in business. I remember when I was little, I
always begging my parents to bring us to a carhop. My snotty sister though was one of those demanding children who
refused to eat anywhere but McDonald's so the carhop was always out of my reach as a child. If I'd had a bit more
time, I'd have parked and gotten some chow, but I wasn't hungry and did have a schedule to keep so I snagged a
couple pix and was on my way:
