Shrine Drive-Thru Tree in Myers Flat
You'd think a small town like this would have huge signs directing you to their only attraction. However, I zoomed past the Myers Flat exit and had
to turn around and backtrack. And, although impressive, this tree has seen better days. In fact, it looks almost dead. Of course, I imagine if I were a
couple thousand years old and had had someone chop out my guts I wouldn't be looking so perky either. The ropes and cables holding it up gave me a moment's pause and
I've got to admit I was hoping it would fall down while I was there. Alas, not today. Also, to interest you there's the Step-Thru Stump which
is just like it sounds and the Drive-On Tree, which is just a dead tree that you can drive onto and then park. Um, not too much of a thrill with that but it was worth
the stop and the $1.50 I paid.
Klamath Tour Thru Tree in Klamath
By the time I got to this drive-thru tree, I was pretty much drive-thru-treed out. I've been up since
the crack
of dawn, I've driven more than 300 miles and only have another 20 to go to the campground. I'm debating even
stoppping
when I see that there's a line of cars waiting to drive through the tree. That makes up my mind and I keep
on going. Here are some postcard photos that I picked up at a gas station.
Trees of Mystery in Klamath
Because it's continually rained the entire time I decide to skip the Trees of Mystery. I'll be driving right by it on my way home in three weeks so I'll check it out then.
Crescent City KOA
By the time I arrive in Crescent City, I'm cold, wet and hungry. Who knew it rained all the time up here? After realising I'd
forgotten my favorite blue jacket sitting on the hook at home, I make a quick stop at the local K-Mart and
pick up a
cheapy for $9.99. Let me tell you that it turned out to be the best ten bucks I ever spent. I wore that jacket all
the time! Anyhoo, I then pull
up to the local KFC window. I'd read that they serve a mean fish 'n' chips here. Yes. At KFC.
Six bucks later I'm
hauling my steaming, deliciously smelling fish 'n' chips back to my cabin. It was hot, greasy and just what I needed. I was so
hungry I forgot about my plan to take pix of all the meals I eat on the road. Oh well, next time. Definitely
recommended. However, bring your own cocktail sauce cos the only thing they gave me was tartar sauce and ranch dressing. Who the hell eats
fish 'n' chips with ranch dressing?!! People in Crescent City, that's who.
