Utah Field House of Natural History & Dinosaur Gardens in Vernal, Utah
utah field house This place is very cool! Since I'd had it scheduled on the itinerary for a morning visit, it wasn't horribly hot (yet!). After paying my entrance fee, I wandered around the indoor museum. There are a few rooms full of taxidermied animals native to Utah and the area, a couple rooms of Native American artifcats and artifacts relating to Vernal, plus a few rooms of fossils. They also have a room where you can watch workers cleaning fossils.

The best part of the museum, though, is what's outside. Outside in the Garden, you'll find fourteen life-size animals created by sculptor Elbert Porter. And they're not just plopped in there next to each other - a waterfall and pathway has been created to help with the illusion. I'm told by museum workers that at Christmastime, they decorate the area with thousands of lights for nighttime visitors. I just may have to come back to see that!
