koa The KOA Campground in New Castle is by far the best that I've stayed at so far. My cabin ended up being right next to a stream - when I fell asleep last night and when I woke up this morning I could hear it bubbling over the rocks. Very cool. In case you've never stayed in the cabins that KOA offer at most of their campgrounds, here are a couple photos. I'd wanted to camp out in a tent some of my trip, but wasn't sure that would be such a good

idea being 1) female and 2) alone. But the KOA's are all extremely family-oriented and you're never really alone. Your tent site is surrounded by others so in future trips I'd feel safe to bring my tent along.

Doc Holliday's Gravesite in Glenwood Springs, Colorado
doc holliday Well I certainly got my exercise for the day while visiting Doc's gravesite! After hiking to the top of the 1/2-mile uphill rocky (and sometimes dangerous) trail, I discover that my camera needs more batteries. Doh! They're down in the car so I head back down. Wheezing back up the hill, I take a seat next to his grave and have a smoke while watching the sun finish rising. I'm completely atop the town of Glenwood Springs and can see all around and faintly hear the sounds of trucks and city noises. It's very peaceful up here and I wonder what it was like for the townspeople to hike up here for funerals and what the view must've been like back then.

I say I'm visiting his gravesite because apparently that's not where he's buried. His tombstone says he's buried somewhere in the cemetary, but so much time has passed that no one seems to rightly recall exactly where his body is buried. I suppose they were worried about people digging him up so they put him in an unmarked spot, which is pretty sad, spending all of eternity in a hole in the ground and no one knows exactly where you're at.

[In October 2002, I visited Colma, California where Wyatt Earp is buried. Click here to see it.]

The story of Doc Holliday is pretty interesting and if you haven't already seen the fantastic film "Tombstone", get to your local video store today and rent it. Starring Val Kilmer as Doc and Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp, you'll see what Doc's life was like around the time of the Showdown at the OK Corral.
